When Jen and I spent Small Business Saturday at Hyde Park Village, we ended a morning of shopping with lunch at Bartaco, a trendy restaurant specializing in upscale Mexican street food. As a part of the blogger stroll we participated in at Hyde Park Village, we each received two free tacos - and since I'd been wanting to try Bartaco for the longest time, I didn't need much more convincing.
We started off with an order of chips and salsa verde - the salsa was more sweet than I liked, but still on the flavorful side. I wasn't super hungry that day (so uncharacteristic of me, I know), and had the urge to save room for dessert, so I ordered just two tacos - the baja fish taco and the chicken taco.
Both tacos were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them, as corn tortillas tend to ruin soft taco experiences for me (I'm usually a flour tortilla kind of girl). But, both tacos were flavorful enough, and their meats tender enough, to mask the dry, chalky texture of the corn tortillas.
After the main course, we had to order gelato - what better way to end a girls' day out? I opted for the chocolate gelato on a cone. Next time, I definitely want to try the churros, when I've got enough room left in my belly for a hearty dessert!
I personally had a fantastic time at Bartaco - the service was great, and the wonderful company didn't hurt, either. After my visit, a few people I talked to about Bartaco wouldn't stop raving about the duck tacos, so I'll definitely be back for those. I'm currently in the midst of convincing pH to give up his keto diet for just one day to come with me!
