Local Bites: Fall Menu at Grillsmith Midtown

Fall is my favorite season for a variety of reasons: my birthday is in October, I adore the weather (well, when we get fall weather in Florida, anyway) - and my foodie heart gets so happy when fall menus launch, because that means comfort food is on its way to my belly.

Grillsmith recently invited me out to its Midtown (South Tampa) location to check out the new fall menu, and I didn’t need much convincing - since its opening back in May, we’ve frequented the restaurant quite a few times, always enjoying what we ordered.

A server always brings us a basket of delicious breadsticks to enjoy while we look over the menu - if you’re a fan of Olive Garden breadsticks, trust me when I say these are better, flavor-wise and texture-wise.

One thing that I really appreciate about Grillsmith is the fact that there are non-alcoholic options for mixed drinks - so while pH is enjoying himself a whiskey neat, I can enjoy a hand-crafted beverage myself, without the headache. This visit, I ordered the Mango Apple Mint Tea - it’s refreshing, and is a great drink if you’re in need of something calming for your tummy.

While perusing through the Craft Comfort menu, two dishes stood out to me that I just had to order - the Chicken Croquettes and New Bedford Jumbo Scallops. In addition, I ordered my favorite Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque to start with, and pH ordered Buffalo Wings off of the happy hour menu, as well as a 14 oz. Ribeye.

Mango Apple Mint Tea: Mango, apple juice, mint, simple syrup, ginger beer, lime, sweet tea

Chicken Croquettes: House-made chicken croquettes, served with creamy horseradish & Marcona almond Romesco sauces

Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque: Rich housemade bisque, toasted almonds, green onions, dollop of cream

Buffalo Wings - $5 during Happy Hour, daily from 4-7 p.m. & Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to close

New Bedford Jumbo Scallops: Fresh U-10 scallops, lemon butter bacon sauce, mascarpone creamed corn & roasted lemon bacon Dijon Brussels sprouts

Ribeye: 14 oz. center cut rib-eye topped with crusted portabella wedges, served with creamy horseradish sauce & two sides

Like I said before, we’re big fans of Grillsmith and love having a location nearby - this particular visit was no less of a great experience for us. The Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque is one of my favorite things to order at Grillsmith, and it’s even more perfect to order during the fall season. pH is a big fan of how Grillsmith’s menu caters to his keto diet, and having side options like Smashed Cauliflower and Fresh Seasonal Veggies always wins him over.

As far as the new fall menu goes, it didn’t disappoint. The Chicken Croquettes were creamy chicken goodness on the inside, with a light breading on the exterior, and I personally loved pairing it with the horseradish dipping sauce. The scallops were incredible - indeed jumbo and seared to perfection, pairing perfectly with the creamed corn and roasted Brussels sprouts. Portions were abundant, and we left with some lunch for the next day.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out the new South Tampa Grillsmith location, you must! The food and hospitality always shines, and we love the ambiance - it’s always great for either date night or a group outing.
