Authentic Asian Buns & Pastries at Sweet Buns Bakery

During a family outing over the weekend, we decided to check out the new Sweet Buns Bakery over by the USF Tampa campus. Owned and managed by the same company as my beloved Yummy House, Sweet Buns Bakery boasts large, fluffy Asian buns, pastries and cakes, along with an array of soup, rice and congee dishes.

Two double-sided cases in the middle of the bakery feature a variety of sweet and savory buns, all reasonably priced, starting at $1.75 per bun. At the ends of the cases, toward the bakery entrance, are tongs and trays for customers to select their assortment of buns with. We chose quite a few different options, from the savory Honey BBQ Pork bun to the sweet Bavarian Cream bun - everything we got was absolutely delicious!

Although I dived in too quickly to take a picture, I also ordered egg noodle soup with roasted duck for lunch. At $8.50, I thought it was very well-priced, considering it had what looked like half a roasted duck on top. The broth for all of the soup options is a simple chicken broth, but was very flavorful. Pro tip: I always add some red vinegar, soy sauce and Sriracha to my egg noodles soup for an extra kick of flavor!

I’m really looking forward to my return for more delicious buns, and I want to try the congee next time. I definitely recommend checking out this spot for yourself - it’s a true gem!

Sweet Buns Bakery is located at 2788 East Fowler Avenue in Tampa. It is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
