Burgers & More at The Avenue DTSP

I have a confession to make: As much of a foodie as I'd like to think I am, and as much as I try to visit and cover all of the delicious spots for noms that I possibly can in the Tampa Bay area, there are always a couple of places that manage to slip through my fingers. The Avenue in downtown St. Pete is one of them.

I was recently invited to join them for a weekday lunch break, and remembering all of the things I've heard about it being a fantastic spot for burgers, I immediately said, 'yes, please!' My work bestie, Ashley, and I headed over there on a low-key Monday to check out the menu:

Among the things on the menu that caught our eye were the Lettuce Wraps - the combination of fresh and savory flavors sounded delicious, and it did not disappoint. I've been very fond lately of feta cheese, and the crumbles on top of the wrap were the perfect, mild touch to a satisfying start to our meal.

Lettuce Wraps: Grilled Chicken, Cabbage, Sour Cream, Sweet Thai Chili, Pico, Avocado, Queso Fresco, Cilantro, Bibb Lettuce

My pretty lunch date!

After our starter, we skipped straight to the Burgers section of the menu - I mean, when people rave about the burgers, how could you spend your first visit ordering anything else?! Ashley was pretty excited to learn of the gluten-free bun option, and paired that with her 90210 choice. You also have the option to sub the beef patty for a veggie burger at no cost, and there are chicken, turkey, bison and portobello options at an additional cost.

I went HAM (like I usually do) and opted for the Say Cheese burger - I like to combine carbs (you know, bread and pasta) whenever possible.

90210: Swiss, Peppered Bacon, Chipotle Mayo, Avocado, Portobello Mushroom Cap

Say Cheese: Mac + Cheese, Pepper Jack Cheese, Peppered Bacon, Beer Cheese Fondue

Both burgers were absolutely delicious. Ashley says she'd definitely order her burger again, and she loved the combination of the juicy burger and portobello mushroom cap - she says, and I quote: "It was messy deliciousness."

Mine looked overwhelming, but tasted like perfection - a small mountain (that's an oxymoron, isn't it?) of mac and cheese covered crispy peppered bacon and a juicy patty, and it all paired wonderfully with the perfectly seasoned and crispy fries contained in an adorable little fry basket.

And while we didn't get to explore dessert with our full tummies, I know I'll be back for those deep-fried Oreos. I'm also giving you a little look-see at the beautifully crafted cocktails offered at The Avenue - no, there was no drinking on the job:

Tri-Freshness: Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka, Strawberries, Cucumbers, Triple Sec, Lime and Sprite

Smoke + Mirrors: Montelobos Mezcal, Smoked Jalapeno, Agave and Grapefruit Juice

Overall: Great vibe paired with a great dining experience. I'll definitely take pH here to get his burger on with me! And on a day I'm feeling brave and my stomach iron, I'll take on the Firecracker burger, with spicy housemade habanero sauce and jalapeno poppers.

The Avenue is located at 330 1st Avenue South in downtown St. Pete and is open daily at 11 a.m. For the latest updates from The Avenue, follow along on Facebook and Instagram.
