True Food Kitchen Comes to Tampa, Opens in Midtown

The popular health-focused, fast casual chain restaurant True Food Kitchen has made its way to Tampa and is officially open in Midtown. The concept and menu does not disappoint, with a focus on sustainability, consciously-sourced, seasonal ingredients, and anti-inflammatory dishes that brim with flavor. pH and I had to the opportunity to check out their menu during a VIP sneak peek, and we were blown away by everything that we ordered. While he’s always down for a food adventure, it’s very rare for pH to rave about a restaurant the way he did after we finished our meal at True Food Kitchen. From the zero-proof sips and craft cocktails to the dishes, we were impressed from start to finish.

Over the last two years, we’ve really embraced dining al fresco, and I’ve noticed more and more what my preferences are for a restaurant with outdoor seating. True Food Kitchen’s outdoor space is huge, with tables comfortably spaced and both fans and heaters installed in the ceiling to offer comfort no matter the weather.

I really loved their selection of non-alcoholic drinks; I ordered the Sparkling Prickly Pear Tisane (prickly pear, apple, hibiscus, lime and cane sugar) while pH opted for the Common Bond craft cocktail (bourbon, pressed apple, chai spice and lemon). Both were spectacular, and those who know pH know it’s not often that he’ll be impressed by a cocktail. This time, he was impressed by two, as he ordered the Juniper Rose (rose-infused gin, lime, grapefruit and thyme) later on in our meal.

It was so difficult to choose from the starters, so we ordered quite a few to get a little taste of everything. It was hard to pick a favorite, and we both agreed that we’d definitely order them all again, but if I had to pick the ones that really stood out to me for you to try, it’d be the Edamame Guacamole and the Edamame Dumplings.

Herb Hummus: Cucumber, cherry tomato, onion, olive, feta and lemon oregano vinaigrette, served with house-made pita

Butternut Squash Soup

Edamame Guacamole: Avocado, cilantro pesto, pumpkin seed and aleppo chili, served with house-made pita chips

Edamame Dumplings: Dashi broth, white truffle oil and herbs

Moving on to our entrees, we couldn’t resist ordering the Pan Seared Sea Bass and Grilled Salmon. Both were full of flavor and a lovely balance of protein and veggies, cooked perfectly.

Pan Seared Sea Bass: Sustainable sea bass, umami, broccolini, roasted mushroom, charred onion, ancient grains, dashi and herbs

Grilled Salmon: Sustainable salmon, farro, quinoa, seasonal vegetables and cilantro pumpkin seed pesto

Without a doubt, we enjoyed our entire meal and plan to return soon. The “healthy” factor of True Food Kitchen’s menu does not diminish the flavor of these dishes, and it’s perfect for us given pH’s Mediterranean diet that he’s been following to keep his triglycerides low. We’re looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu, and highly recommend that you check out this spot!
